Signal mapping and response time
The 6ES7138-6AA01-0BA0 is a single-channel digital output module for the SIMATIC ET 200SP distributed I/O system. It accepts 24 V DC on the load side with a tolerance down to L+ (-0.8 V), and the input voltage range for a logic "1" signal is +11 to +30 V. The module maps 16 bytes of input data in standard mode, or 4 bytes when Fast mode is enabled. Output data is 12 bytes in standard mode, dropping to 4 bytes for Motion Control and 0 bytes in Fast mode — the output bandwidth shifts entirely to the input side for high-speed capture and counter functions. Signal transition times are 50 µs max for both 0-to-1 and 1-to-0 edges, which keeps loop dead time low for a process controller. The isochronous mode synchronises the I/O update to the PROFINET cycle, eliminating the jitter that otherwise adds uncertainty to a step-test response.
Unshielded cable runs up to 600 m are supported; shielded runs extend to 1,000 m. The 24 V rated supply draws a typical power loss of 1 W.
Diagnostics and configuration
Onboard diagnostics include wire-break detection, short-circuit monitoring, and group error reporting. The module supports I&M data (I&M0 to I&M3) for asset tracking and firmware version V2.0. The software gate, gate start/stop, and parameterisable synchronisation functions allow the module to act as a pulse encoder or probe input for motion control applications. The lower and upper limits for 2-wire sensor detection are 48 Ω and 12 kΩ respectively.
