What this power module does
The Siemens 6ES7148-4CA60-0AA0 is a power module for the ET 200pro distributed I/O family, delivering 24 V DC to electronic modules through its internal busbars. It's rated for up to 10 A at ambient temperatures up to 55 °C on those busbars, which sets the supply limit for the downstream I/O slice. Housed in an IP65/67 rated enclosure (45 mm wide, 130 mm tall, and only 35 mm deep), the module can be placed directly in field locations—washdown zones, conveyors, or outdoor cabinets—without a secondary enclosure. The shallow depth is a key advantage in space-constrained junction boxes. Onboard diagnostics include a group error LED (red) and short-circuit detection per output path, with isolation tested to 707 V DC. Reverse polarity protection is built in to prevent destruction if the 24 V supply lines are crossed.
How it fits alongside the ET 200pro safety variant
The closest sibling often cross-searched is the 6ES7148-4FC00-0AB0, a safety-rated (SIL 3) power module with integrated 8 DI / 4 DO. That module is significantly larger—65 mm deep and 90 mm wide—and draws over five times the typical power (5.8 W vs 1.1 W). Because the 6ES7148-4FC00-0AB0 carries functional safety approvals and a different I/O count, it is not a mechanical or electrical drop-in for this standard PM-O. A panel pre-wired for that safety module will need new mounting holes and a separate backplane bus segment; the two cannot be interchanged without rewiring.
Mounting and connection
The power module mounts directly onto the ET 200pro backplane via an included bus module (the connection module 6ES7194-4BH00-0AA0 is ordered separately). The 35 mm depth leaves space for cable ducts and connectors behind the module in shallow enclosures. Wiring is via the connection module's spring-cage terminals; the power supply is fed from 2L+ and 2M. Diagnostics and status are signalled through the IM bus interface, so no separate wiring is needed for the group error LED.
