What this module does that a standard DO can't
The 6ES7148-4EA00-0AA0 is a SIMATIC DP pneumatic interface module for the ET 200 PRO remote I/O family — it converts 16 digital output signals into pneumatic valve commands, coupling directly to a Festo CPV-10 valve terminal. This saves a separate pneumatic controller and the wiring between the PLC cabinet and the valve island. Each of the 16 outputs drives a valve on the CPV-10 with a rated signal current of 12 mA, and the module supplies the valve solenoids from the 2L+ load voltage, drawing up to 250 mA total (including the valves themselves) at 24 V DC. Valve switching times are 17 ms on and 25 ms off — fast enough for most pick-and-place, clamping, and indexing stations, but not for high-speed sorting where you'd need a separate high-speed pneumatic manifold.
Safety-rated valve control
This module carries SIL 2 per IEC 62061, Category 3 per ISO 13849-1, and Performance Level d — meaning it's suitable for safety-related tripping of standard actuators in a hazard zone, not just general-purpose valve sequencing. Diagnostics include a group error SF (red) LED, per-channel green status indicators, and readable diagnostic information — so a field tech can identify a stuck valve or shorted solenoid without dragging a laptop to the machine. Short-circuit protection and reverse-polarity protection on the load voltage side are built in — no external fusing needed per output group, which simplifies the panel layout.
The module includes the bus module (the mechanical and electrical interface to the ET 200 PRO base) — you don't need to order that separately unless you're replacing just the electronics. Dimensions are 90 mm wide, 130 mm high, and 47 mm deep — fits the standard ET 200 PRO form factor with the CPV-10 valve terminal mounted alongside.
