What this module does in the ET 200S rack
The Siemens 6ES7151-3BA20-0AB0 is the PROFINET IO interface for an ET 200S distributed I/O station. It handles the data exchange between the controller and up to 63 peripheral modules across a maximum width of 2 metres, transmitting at up to 100 Mbit/s. It provides 256 bytes each of input and output data (process image), plus diagnostic and alarm functions that the controller can read over PROFINET.
Power and fail‑safe behaviour
The module draws up to 250 mA from the supply (1L+) and dissipates 2.5 W typical. It holds the last valid process image for 20 ms after a mains dropout. Galvanic isolation is provided between the Ethernet ports and electronics (yes), but not between the backplane bus and electronics, nor between supply voltage and electronics — so a ground fault on the bus side will couple into the interface.
