IM154-8FX PN/DP CPU — panel integration brief
The Siemens 6ES7154-8FX00-0AB0 is an IM154-8FX PN/DP CPU for the ET 200pro distributed I/O system. It's an SFB type — a software-based fault-tolerant controller that runs safety and standard logic on the same hardware. The CPU supports CFC, FBD, LAD, STL, SCL, GRAPH, and HiGraph® programming languages, so it fits into any Siemens TIA Portal or STEP 7 V5.5 or higher workflow. It measures 135 mm wide, 130 mm high, and 65 mm deep (60 mm without the RJ45 cover), which slots into the standard ET 200pro enclosure — no extra DIN-rail real estate needed beyond the backplane module.
Fieldbus and connectivity — what's on the ports
This CPU has an integrated PROFINET interface that handles TCP/IP, UDP, and IRT (isochronous real-time) communication. It can act as both a PROFINET client and server, and it supports S7 routing for crossing network segments. RS 485 is also on board for legacy PROFIBUS connections. Galvanic isolation is implemented in the IM154-8 for and in the connection module for and — that keeps ground loops from coupling noise into the backplane. The RJ45 socket sits behind a cover; with the cover on, the depth is 65 mm; without it, 60 mm.
I/O map and memory — what the CPU sees
The CPU handles 244 bytes of inputs and 244 bytes of outputs — that's the process image for the distributed I/O. Forcing is supported, so you can override outputs during commissioning without changing the logic. Retentive data must be restarted at each restart; it's not automatically preserved across power cycles. The maximum data size is 2048 bytes. The I2t rating is 0.25 A²·s (typical), which gives a rough idea of the short-circuit energy the CPU can handle on its backplane power.
