Integrator’s perspective: what this module does
The Siemens 6ES7174-0AA00-0AA0 interface module reads incremental or SSI absolute encoders over a differential RS-422 line, with a pulse frequency up to 750 kHz and clock frequency up to 3 MHz (parameterizable). Five relay outputs rated at 1 A / 30 V max are available for low-power signaling or isolation, not for driving inductive loads directly.
The differential RS-422 input (5 V difference signal) ensures noise immunity over long cable runs — up to 600 m shielded. The module’s input frequency max of 1 MHz and pulse frequency of 750 kHz cover most servo and stepper encoder feedback applications. Absolute encoder support (SSI) uses the trace mark signals A, notA, B, notB and zero mark N, notN. The interface is short-circuit protected with a minimum load impedance of 3.3 kΩ and max output current of 45 mA.
