SPC3 ASIC — the PROFIBUS DP engine
The Siemens 6ES7195-0BD12-0XA0 is the SPC3 ASIC — the dedicated PROFIBUS DP protocol engine that offloads the host microprocessor from bus access and telegram handling. It handles the full DP slave stack in silicon, so the host only needs to read and write the 1.5 kbyte telegram memory buffer. Rated for 12 Mbit/s transmission rate with automatic baud rate detection, it fits intelligent slave applications where deterministic cycle times matter — think drives, remote I/O, and valve islands on a PROFIBUS DP line.
Thermal and electrical margins
Power loss is only 0.5 W at 5 VDC — negligible for the enclosure thermal budget. The PQFP-44 package (2 cm² footprint) requires one external microprocessor; the firmware footprint runs 4 to 24 KB depending on the application profile.
