FOCSI ASIC for PROFIBUS FO preprocessing
The Siemens 6ES7195-0EA10-0XA0 is a FOCSI (Fibre Optic Controller for Siemens) ASIC that preprocesses the signal for PROFIBUS fibre optic links, acting as the Medium Management Unit in the communication chain. It handles the physical-layer conditioning before the main PROFIBUS controller, offloading the cyclic framing and optical signal recovery from the host processor.
Key operating parameters
Runs on a 3.3 V DC rail and dissipates 0.75 W max — low enough that no heatsinking is needed in the typical control-card layout. The 12 Mbit/s max transmission rate matches the PROFIBUS DP-V1 speed ceiling, so this ASIC does not bottleneck the segment bandwidth. Housed in a TQFP 44-pin package with a die area of 2 cm². The -40 to 85 °C operating range covers the full industrial enclosure ambient, including unheated cabinets in northern mills and hot panel interiors near drives.
