Why this Y coupler exists
The 6ES7197-1LB00-0XA0 is a Y coupler for setting up a Y-Link between redundant SIMATIC S7 controllers and a PROFIBUS DP fieldbus. Without it, a redundant CPU pair cannot present a single PROFIBUS DP address to the line — the Y coupler merges the two active DP masters into one logical master interface. It supports transmission rates from 45.45 kbit/s up to 12 Mbit/s, matching the speed of the downstream DP segment. The active terminating resistor on the lower-level DP master system eliminates the need for an external bus terminator at the Y-link node.
Slave count and bus extension
The Y coupler handles up to 31 DP slaves directly. Adding RS 485 repeaters or OLM/OBT optical link modules pushes that ceiling to 64 slaves — useful when the field devices are spread across multiple cabinets or floors. Up to nine RS 485 repeaters can be cascaded in the lower-level DP master system. The 244-byte parameter assignment telegram length accommodates complex slave configurations without fragmentation.
Panel fit and power
Typical power loss is just 1 W, so no forced-air cooling is required in a standard IP20 enclosure.
