What it is, what it does
The Siemens 6ES7212-1AB23-0XB0 is a CPU module in the S7-200 family, powered by 24 V DC (permissible range 15.4 to 28.8 V) and carrying 8 digital inputs and 6 digital outputs. Six of the inputs can be configured as high-speed counters up to 30 kHz, and two outputs support fast pulse trains (2 µs rise). Typical power draw is 5 W, and the backup for retentive data lasts at least 8 hours at 40 °C via the integral capacitor, or up to 200 days with the optional battery.
Integration and mounting notes
Dimensions are 90 mm wide, 80 mm high, 62 mm deep; mounts on DIN rail or directly to the panel. The integrated RS-485 interface runs over shielded cable up to 500 m. Digital outputs are source logic, configurable per group as source or sink (E 0.0–0.5). For high-speed counting inputs, ensure the signal meets 0–5 V for logic '0' and at least 15 V for logic '1'.
