CPU 224 DC/DC/DC — panel integration and I/O map
The Siemens 6ES7214-1AD22-0XB0 is an S7-200 CPU 224 with DC inputs, DC sourcing outputs, and a 24 V DC supply — a compact controller for standalone or distributed automation. It fits a 120.5 mm wide by 80 mm high by 62 mm deep footprint, designed for DIN-rail mounting in a control cabinet alongside expansion modules. The CPU provides 14 digital inputs (sink/source configurable per group) and 10 digital outputs, with a maximum of 256 I/O points via expansion bus. Six high-speed counters (30 kHz each, 32-bit) handle incremental encoder feedback or up/down counting, and two pulse outputs (Q 0.0, Q 0.1) switch at up to 2 µs rise time for stepper or servo pulse trains.
Supply range, program retention, and backup
The 24 V DC supply accepts 15.4 to 28.8 V, drawing 7 W typical. Program and DB1 data reside on integral EEPROM — no battery needed for program retention. Current values of DB1, retentive memory bits, timers, and counters are buffered by a high-performance capacitor (190 h backup at 40 °C, 120 h minimum). An optional battery module extends backup to 200 days typical. The CPU supports three programming languages: LAD (ladder), FBD (function block diagram), and STL (statement list), selectable per project in the Siemens STEP 7-Micro/WIN environment. The instruction set covers bit logic, timers (1 ms to 54 min range), counters, integer and floating-point math, shift/rotate, table, and communications instructions.
Communications and high-speed I/O
An integrated RS 485 interface supports PPI protocol (9.6/19.2/187.5 kbit/s) for programming, HMI panels (TD 200, OP), and CPU-to-CPU communication. MPI slave mode enables data exchange with S7-300/S7-400 CPUs, OPs, and TDs at 19.2/187.5 kbit/s. Shielded cable runs up to 150 m; unshielded also 150 m. Six high-speed counters (30 kHz each) are parameterizable on inputs E 0.0 to E 1.5, with enable/reset inputs and interrupt-on-setpoint capability. Two of these counters can be configured as A/B quadrature encoder inputs at up to 20 kHz. The 10 digital outputs switch standard loads with a 15 µs rise time (Q 0.2 to Q 1.1) and 100 µs fall time; pulse outputs Q 0.0 and Q 0.1 switch in 2 µs rise and 10 µs fall.
