The 6ES7222-1BD22-0XA0 is a spare-part digital output expansion module for SIMATIC S7-200 CPUs, designated as EM 222. It provides 4 source outputs at 24 V DC, each rated 5 A for resistive or inductive loads — that's enough current per channel to drive a medium contactor coil or a small solenoid bank directly, without an interposing relay.

Compatibility and wiring constraints

This module works only with S7-22X CPUs (CPU 221, 222, 224, 224XP, 226). It is not compatible with S7-200 SMART or later S7-1200/1500 families — the backplane connector and protocol differ. The plug-in I/O terminals make field swap fast; no re-wiring of the screw terminals if you pre-wire the connector. There is no short-circuit protection on the outputs. Each channel must be fused externally.
