32 inputs, 32 relay outputs — the I/O count that matters
The 6ES7223-1PM22-0XA0 is an SM 1223 signal module for the S7-1200 platform, packing 32 digital inputs and 32 relay outputs into a single 196 mm-wide unit. That 64-point density saves a slot in the rack compared to splitting across two 32-point modules. Each relay output handles 2 A resistive (0.75 A inductive), grouped in three isolated banks of 11/11/10 channels — the 10 A per-group ceiling means you distribute high-current loads across banks rather than stacking them on one common.
Supply flexibility and isolation architecture
The module accepts both 24 V DC and 24 V to 230 V AC on the supply side — a single part covers control panels running 24 VDC and those with 120 V or 230 V AC control transformers, simplifying BOM line items across machine variants. Inputs are optocoupler-isolated from the backplane; outputs are relay-isolated. Isolation tested at 500 V AC. The 5 V DC backplane draw is 205 mA max — budget that into the S7-1200 CPU's 5 V bus capacity.
