The Siemens 6ES7234-4HE30-0XB0 is a current-production 4-channel analog input module for the S7-1200 platform. It accepts differential signals in the 0 to 20 mA current range and voltage ranges of ±10 V, ±5 V, and ±2.5 V. The module sits on the S7-1200 standard rail and communicates directly with the CPU backplane, drawing 2 W typical. For factory-floor environments, the rated operating temperature span of -40 °C to 70 °C means it can be mounted in unheated cabinets or near heat sources without derating—a wider range than many standard IO slices.
Commissioning notes
Measurement is differential per channel, so each input pair must float relative to the module’s internal reference unless the signal source is grounded at one end. Wire-break detection (step: None or step: Low/Medium/High) is paramaterizable in the hardware config—enabling it adds a diagnostic alarm that the CPU can read without extra wiring. Short-circuit detection is also paramaterizable for current inputs. The diagnostic alarm (collective) fires for wire-break, short-circuit, or overrange conditions; it does not latch by default, so the PLC program must acknowledge it if a persistent fault matters. Power consumption holds at 2 W typical with all four channels activated; no additional backplane bus supply headroom is needed beyond the CPU’s own budget. The module carries CE, FM, and RCM approvals, satisfying most industrial regulatory requirements out of the box.
