What serial protocols does this module actually run?
The 6ES7241-1CH32-0XB0 is a CM 1241 RS422/485 communication module that drops into the S7-1200 rack and handles Modbus RTU as both master and slave, plus USS and ASCII via library function blocks. The RS 422 / 485 (X.27) interface gives you one port with a max cable length of 1000 m, addressing up to 247 slaves on a Modbus segment (though the network segment limit is 32 devices before you need repeaters).
Does it fit the existing S7-1200 slot and panel?
Power comes from the 24 VDC backplane — no separate supply needed. Typical power loss is 1.1 W, so it won't cook the adjacent modules even in a densely packed rail.
