CPU core and programming

The Siemens 6ES7288-1ST20-0AA0 is an S7-1200 CPU supporting FBD, LAD, and STL programming languages, with 12 kB program memory and DDR RAM. It handles 144 bytes each of digital and analog I/O, mapped as 256 bits of digital inputs/outputs and 56 words of analog inputs/outputs. The CPU includes a maintenance-free real-time clock with 7-day backup, no battery required.

Communications and integration

Built-in PROFINET interface with TCP/IP support and autonegotiation; update time as low as 4 ms. RS485 port runs at up to 187.5 kbps. PROFIBUS connectivity is available via a CM DP module. The CPU can act as both PROFINET client and server. Mounts on standard DIN rail — snap-on to a 35 mm rail, 90 mm wide by 100 mm tall by 81 mm deep.

Control and I/O features

Built-in PID closed-loop control supports up to 8 loops with continuous or binary outputs, automatic/manual mode. Six high-speed counters are parameterizable: four single-phase HSCs at 200 kHz, two at 30 kHz; four A/B-phase HSCs at 100 kHz, two at 20 kHz. Input thresholds are configurable: signals below 1 V DC (I0.0–I0.3) or 5 V DC (I0.4–I2.7) read as logic 0; above 4 V or 15 V respectively read as logic 1. Forcing and autocrossing are supported.
