I/O and memory capacity
The 6ES7288-1ST20-0AA1: The CPU handles 144 bytes of inputs and 144 bytes of outputs, mapped as 256 bits of digital I/O plus 56 words of analog I/O per device. Program memory is 12 KB, with DDR RAM and flash for retention. Forcing is supported, which helps during commissioning when you need to override a sensor without rewiring.
Communication and networking
Built-in PROFINET interface with autocrossing and autonegotiation, minimum update time 4 ms. RS-485 port runs up to 187.5 kbps for Modbus or point-to-point links. PROFIBUS is available via a CM DP module. The CPU can act as both Modbus client and server. Ethernet TCP/IP is native.
High-speed counters and PID
Six single-phase high-speed counters: four at 200 kHz, two at 30 kHz. For A/B phase quadrature encoders: two at 100 kHz, two at 20 kHz. The PID controller handles continuous or binary outputs across up to 8 loops with auto/manual mode — enough for a small process skid or conveyor zone.
