The Siemens 6ES7288-1ST40-0AA0 is an S7-1200 CPU with 24 KB program memory, 144 bytes each of process-image inputs and outputs, and a maintenance-free RTC with 7-day backup. It supports LAD, FBD, STL, and RAM programming, and includes PROFINET (TCP/IP) with autonegotiation and autocrossing, plus an RS-485 interface for Modbus or point-to-point links.
I/O and memory map
The CPU maps 144 bytes of inputs and 144 bytes of outputs, covering 256 bits of digital I/O and 56 words of analog I/O per device. Program memory is 24 KB, with DDR-type RAM and flash for backup. The process-image update time on PROFINET IO can go as low as 4 ms, depending on the IO device count and configuration.
Communication and motion
PROFINET interface supports TCP/IP, autonegotiation, and autocrossing. The RS-485 port runs up to 187.5 kbps, shielded to 500 m. PROFIBUS DP is available via an add-on CM DP module. For motion, the CPU has 6 single-phase high-speed counters (4 at 200 kHz, 2 at 30 kHz) and 4 A/B-phase counters (2 at 100 kHz, 2 at 20 kHz), all parameterizable.
Control and isolation
Built-in PID control supports up to 8 loops with continuous or binary outputs and auto/manual mode. The CPU is transformer-isolated at 1,500 V AC. Digital input thresholds are split: I0.0–I0.3 switch below 1 V DC for signal 0 and above 4 V for signal 1; I0.4–I2.7 use < 5 V DC for 0 and > 15 V for 1.
