The Siemens 6ES7288-2DE16-0AA0 is a SIMATIC S7-1200 SM 1221 digital input module providing 16 sinking/sourcing inputs rated for 24 V DC. Each channel draws a typical 4 mA at 24 V DC, so the total backplane load stays under 80 mA even with all inputs active — leaves headroom for additional modules on the same bus. Signal "1" threshold is +15 to +30 V DC, with a guaranteed "0" below 5 V DC, which gives clean noise margin on a 24 V control supply.
Wiring and integration
The module snaps onto the S7-1200 DIN-rail mounting rail and connects via the integrated backplane bus connector — no separate ribbon cable. Width is 45 mm, so it occupies one slot position. Unshielded sensor cables can run up to 300 m; shielded runs up to 500 m. Inputs are arranged in groups of four, with a common return per group. Isolation between channels is via optocoupler, tested at 1,500 V AC for one minute.
Horizontal installation is rated up to 55 °C; vertical installation derates to 45 °C — account for this in panel layout if the module sits above heat-generating drives or power supplies.
