RS-485 gateway for the S7-200 SMART backplane
The 6ES7288-5CM01-0AA0 is a SIMATIC S7-200 SMART Communication Module CM 01 that adds one RS-485 interface to the CPU via the backplane bus. It draws 50 mA at 5 V DC from the backplane and consumes 0.5 W typical, leaving headroom for other signal boards. The 9-pin D-sub connector (pin, not socket) supports Freeport programming, Modbus RTU, and USS protocols.
The 9-pole D-sub is a male connector (pin), so your cable assembly needs a female (socket) end. Shielded cable length is rated to 10 m — enough for a drive cabinet or local sensor cluster but not a plant-wide run. IP20 means it lives inside an enclosure; no washdown exposure. The 35 mm width and 16 mm depth let it snap into the standard S7-200 SMART signal-board slot without stealing DIN rail space.
