Output ratings and load handling
This SM322 module provides 8 digital outputs, each rated for a continuous current of 2 A at signal "1" within the 0 to 40 °C range. The outputs switch 120/230 V AC loads (permissible range 79 V to 264 V AC) and include zero-crossing switching at 60 V, which reduces inrush stress on the connected load. Maximum switching frequency is 10 Hz with resistive loads and 0.5 Hz with inductive loads; on lamp loads the limit is 1 Hz.
Diagnostics and channel isolation
The module supports parameterizable diagnostic alarms and a group error SF (red) LED. Each channel is isolated from the others in groups of 1, with optocoupler isolation between channels and the backplane bus. Isolation is tested at 1,500 V AC. The module requires an external 40-pin front connector (not included) and external short-circuit protection via a 3.15 A / 250 V quick-response fuse.
Panel fit and power budget
The module occupies a 40 mm wide slot in a Siemens S7-300 DIN rail assembly, with dimensions of 125 mm height and 120 mm depth. It draws a maximum of 100 mA from the 5 V DC backplane bus and dissipates 8.6 W typ. Unshielded cable runs up to 600 m and shielded runs up to 1,000 m are supported.
