Intrinsic safety and hazardous area deployment
The 6ES7322-5RD00-0AB0: This is an Ex(i) intrinsically safe digital output module for SIMATIC S7-300 — 4 isolated channels at 15 V DC / 20 mA, designed to drive field devices in Zone 1 / Division 1 hazardous areas without an external barrier. The FM marking covers Class I, Division 1, Groups A–D and Division 2, Groups A–D T4; ATEX marking is [EEx ib] IIC per PTB test number Ex-96.D.2102X. Channel-to-channel isolation is rated 60 V DC / 30 V AC in the hazardous area and 400 V DC / 250 V AC in the non-hazardous area — the same isolation applies between channels and the backplane bus, and between channels and load voltage L+.
Electrical limits and wiring constraints
Each output is electronically short-circuit protected with a response threshold of minimum 20.5 mA + 10 %. The max. permissible external capacitance (Co) is 500 nF and max. external inductance (Lo) is 5 mH — these set the cable length and field device limits for intrinsic safety compliance. Unshielded cable runs up to 200 m are allowed. The module draws 85 mA max. from the 5 V DC backplane bus and 160 mA max. from load voltage L+ (no-load). Typical power loss is 3 W. A 20-pin front connector is required (sold separately).
Diagnostics and status indication
Diagnostics are readable via the backplane bus. The module provides a green status indicator per channel, a red channel fault indicator, and a red group error SF indicator. Reverse polarity protection is built in.
