Positioning module for two-axis cam control
The Siemens 6ES7351-1AH01-0AE0 is an FM 351 positioning module for the S7-300 rack, handling rapid traverse, creep, run right, and run left motion profiles on two independent axes. It accepts incremental encoders (symmetrical or asymmetrical) and absolute SSI encoders, with a maximum input frequency of 50 kHz at 25 m cable length, dropping to 25 kHz at the full 100 m cable run.
Encoder interface and I/O constraints
The encoder input is a 5 V differential signal (RS-422 physical layer) with complementary clock and data lines — CL/notCL and DATA/notDATA — plus a zero-mark signal N and trace marks A, B. Eight digital inputs sink 24 VDC with a signal "1" threshold of +11 to +30 V and a residual current limit of 0.5 mA for signal "0"; eight digital outputs each source up to 400 mA with short-circuit protection. The module draws 350 mA from the backplane (5 V present) and requires a single 20-pin front connector.
