CPU 414-4HJ00-0AB0 — S7-400 SFB controller
The Siemens 6ES7414-4HJ00-0AB0 is an S7-400 CPU of the SFB type, handling up to 4 096 inputs and 4 096 outputs across a maximum of 244 slots. It supports CFC, FBD, LAD, SCL, GRAPH, and HiGraph® programming languages, with STEP 7 V5.0 SP2 as the minimum engineering version. Default MPI on RS 485 is the onboard communication interface; S7 routing is enabled.
Programming and engineering
The CPU can be programmed in LAD, FBD, STL, SCL, GRAPH, HiGraph®, and CFC. The CFC (Continuous Function Chart) support is useful for process engineers who prefer a flow-sheet style of logic rather than ladder. The engineering toolchain requires STEP 7 V5.0 SP2 or later; the CPU itself is not expandable beyond its built-in capabilities, so all I/O and FM must be planned in the initial rack configuration.
Communication interfaces
Onboard communication is via MPI (default setting) over RS 485. For PROFIBUS or Industrial Ethernet, the CPU supports up to 10 connections via a CP module, and up to 32 connections each for CP LAN and CP PtP links — again slot-limited. The CPU can act as both a Modbus client and server via a CP and a loadable function block. SYNC/FREEZE and equidistance are not supported, so this CPU is not the right choice for isochronous motion applications.
Physical dimensions and mounting
The module measures 50 mm wide, 290 mm high, and 219 mm deep. It mounts on a standard S7-400 rack; the 50 mm width occupies one slot position. The backplane bus is isolated, and the CPU has two integrated interfaces. No expandability beyond the rack slots means the panel layout must account for all I/O and FM at build time.
