The Siemens 6ES7416-2XK01-0AB0 is a digital output module for the S7-400 series, providing 16 outputs rated at 0.5 A each on 24 V DC. It draws 80 mA from the backplane 5 V DC bus and dissipates 4.9 W typically. Isolation between channels and the backplane is via optocoupler, tested at 500 V DC.
Each output switches 0.5 A rated current — enough for indicator lamps, small contactor coils, or PLC-to-relay interfaces. For resistive loads, it can switch at up to 100 Hz; for inductive loads, limit switching to 0.5 Hz to avoid overheating the output stage. The module also limits inductive shutdown voltage to L+ (-53 V), which protects downstream wiring from voltage spikes when driving solenoids or relays. The 24 V DC supply must stay within 20.4 V to 28.8 V. Minimum load current per channel is 5 mA; residual current in the off state is under 0.5 mA, so it won't falsely hold a relay or lamp dimly lit.
