Fault-tolerant CPU for redundant S7-400H systems
The Siemens 6ES7416-5HS06-0AB0 is a CPU 416-5H PN/DP for the S7-400H fault-tolerant automation system, designed for redundant or single-operator configurations where process uptime is critical. It supports up to 8192 digital inputs and 8192 digital outputs, making it sized for large I/O footprints common in process, power generation, and material handling lines. Integrated PROFINET interface handles UDP and TCP/IP communication via loadable function blocks, while the onboard MPI and RS 485 ports connect to operator panels and drives without an extra CP. CPU acts as a DP master and supports PROFIBUS slave communication.
Programming and engineering toolchain
Programmable in LAD, FBD, STL, SCL, CFC, and GRAPH under STEP 7 — the full IEC 61131-3 language set plus continuous function chart for process engineers. The CPU supports forcing, routing, and 96 overall SFB instances, with dedicated system function blocks for data record handling and PROFIBUS diagnostics. Parameter assignment blocks and client functionality for data exchange round out the communications toolkit.
Physical integration and isolation
Module measures 50 mm wide, 290 mm tall, and 219 mm deep. Isolated design means the CPU backplane and I/O circuits are galvanically separated from the field-side interfaces, reducing ground-loop risk in mixed-voltage panels. Point-to-point communication via CP is limited by the number of slots and connections in the rack — consult the S7-400H manual for slot planning.
