What it is and what it does
The Siemens 6ES7431-1KF10-0AB0 is an 8-channel analog input module for the S7-400 rack. It handles RTDs (Pt100, Pt200, Pt500, Pt1000, Pt10000, Ni100, Ni1000), thermocouples (types B, E, J, K, L, N, R, S, T, U), voltage ranges (-10 V to +10 V, -5 V to +5 V, -2.5 V to +2.5 V, -1 V to +1 V, 1 V to 5 V), and current loops (0 to 20 mA, 4 mA to 20 mA). Resistance measurement spans 0 to 6000 ohms (usable up to 5000 ohms). That range covers nearly every field signal you'd find in a process plant — from Pt100 RTDs on heat exchangers to Type K thermocouples in furnaces, plus 4-20 mA transmitters for pressure or level. The module is parameterizable, meaning the input type and range are set in software, not by jumpers.
Panel fit and wiring
The module width is 25 mm, depth 210 mm, height 290 mm. It occupies one slot in the S7-400 rack. The 210 mm depth is the standard S7-400 depth — it fits the same enclosures as other S7-400 modules. Shielded cable runs up to 200 m for most signals; thermocouples and low-voltage ranges (≤80 mV) are limited to 50 m to avoid noise pickup.
