CPU for deterministic motion and redundant networks
The Siemens 6ES7513-1AL01-0AB0 is a CPU module for the S7-1500 controller family, supporting IRT for deterministic motion control and MRP for ring redundancy according to IEC 62439-2. It handles up to 32 kbyte each of input and output process images, with forcing capability for commissioning. Onboard PID temperature controller with optimization and for valve positioning are included, reducing the need for external loop controllers. Built-in I&M data (I&M0 to I&M3) supports asset tracking and consistent device identification across the network.
Protocols and network integration
IRT (Isochronous Real-Time) works alongside MRPD for media redundancy when using IRT switches. MRP Manager and Client roles are supported, also MRP Automanager as per IEC 62439-2 Edition 2.0. Modbus TCP, TCP/IP, UDP, DHCP, DNS, and DCP are all available for communication with third-party devices and network discovery. HTTP and HTTPS with standard and user-defined pages enable web-based diagnostics and parameterization. PROFIsafe is not supported on this CPU; a separate F-CPU is required for functional safety applications.
Environmental footprint and mounting
Rated for ambient operation from -40 °C to 70 °C, making it suitable for cold storage, outdoor cabinets, or high-heat plant floors without derating. With a width of 35 mm, depth of 129 mm, and height of 147 mm, it occupies a single slot on the standard S7-1500 rail, allowing dense IO packing. The on-module hardware clock and 16 counters support precise timestamping and event counting without additional modules.
Sourcing and procurement note
If your BOM includes 6ES7513-1AL01-0AB0, confirm firmware version compatibility with your existing TIA Portal project – the hardware supports LAD, FBD, STL, SCL, and GRAPH programming.
