Mid-range S7-1500 with dual PN and MRP ring capability
The 6ES7516-2PN00-0AB0: Programming via LAD, FBD, STL, SCL, or GRAPH — all supported natively. MODBUS TCP is also baked in, so you can talk to legacy instruments or drives without an external gateway. Process image is 32 kbytes for inputs and 32 kbytes for outputs — enough for a medium-sized machine with distributed I/O over PROFINET. Temperature tolerance: -40 to 70 °C ambient, so it lives in cold warehouses or warm cabinets without derating.
Integration notes from the field
Supports I&M data (I&M0 to I&M3) for asset tracking and consistent device replacement. Forcing of I/O is allowed during commissioning — useful for quick tests. Two onboard PROFINET ports share a single MAC; layer 2 forwarding is handled internally. No external passive device needed for MRP rings — the CPU can act as the ring manager.
