Redundancy and real-time
MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol) is supported in manager and client roles, with MRPD (Isochronous Real-Time) available when IRT is enabled in the network. This means the CPU can participate in a ring topology that recovers from a single cable break within 200 ms and synchronize axes or fast I/O to within 1 ms jitter. Note that IRT is not native to the CPU port; MRPD is the mechanism to achieve IRT through the PROFINET interface and requires an IRT-capable switch in the network.
Programming and diagnostics
The CPU can be programmed in LAD, FBD, SCL, STL, GRAPH, and CFC. Forcing and I&M data (I&M0 to I&M3) are supported. Onboard PID controllers for temperature and valves are included, with integrated optimization routines that tune loop parameters automatically.
Panel fit and environmental
Physically, the module measures 70 mm wide, 147 mm high, and 129 mm deep, fitting standard S7-1500 rail spacing. The wide temperature range (-40 to 70 °C) covers unheated cabinets and outdoor-adjacent installations without active cooling, as long as the enclosure provides basic dust and splash protection. The internal power supply carries an I²t rating of 0.6 A²·s, which characterizes the short-circuit withstand capability of the onboard fuse — relevant when selecting an external 24 VDC breaker to achieve selectivity.
