Key network and protocol features
The 6ES7517-3UP00-0AB0: PROFINET controller on board with two ports (100 Mbps), supports MRP manager and MRP client for ring redundancy. MRPD is listed but requires IRT — this CPU does not have IRT, so MRPD is not usable. Modbus TCP server/client is integrated (no extra CM needed). RS-485 (X3 interface) enables connection to Modbus RTU or other serial devices. Up to 8 additional communication modules (CM/CP) can be inserted for PROFIBUS, additional PROFINET, or Ethernet. Integrated PID controllers for temperature and valve control are pre-loaded, reducing the need for external loop controllers. Forcing is supported for non-failsafe signals, which aids commissioning without switching to hardware jumpers.
