CPU 1518-4 PN/DP – safety-rated controller for high-end automation
The Siemens 6ES7518-4UP00-0AB0 CPU 1518-4 PN/DP supports FBD and LAD including failsafe, and PROFIsafe safety communication. MRP is supported as manager and client per IEC 62439-2 Edition 2.0, but MRPD (Media Redundancy for Planned Duplication) requires IRT—and this CPU does not support IRT. That means MRPD is not usable here. Rated for -40 to 70 °C ambient, so it's suitable for unheated cabinets or outdoor-adjacent installs. Backplane power is drawn from the rack; no separate power supply needed.
Integration notes – DIN placement and network constraints
Footprint is 175 x 147 x 129 mm (W x H x D). Mounts on the DIN rail with the base unit; no extra spacing required for heatsinking at 70 °C. The 1 Gbps Ethernet is only available at the X3 interface of the CPU 1518—other ports are 100 Mbps. If your PROFINET ring needs gigabit, plan that segment through X3. Up to 8 communication modules (CM/CP) for PROFIBUS, PROFINET, or Ethernet can be added. Process image is 32 kbyte each for inputs and outputs.
