GSM module for S7-1200 – single-width compact, OPC SCADA link
The Siemens 6GK7242-7KX31-0XE0 is a GSM communication module for the S7-1200 line, occupying a single-width compact slot and supporting GPRS, SMS, NTP, and OPC-based SCADA connectivity. Supply is 24 V external via a 3-pole terminal block; power dissipation is 2.4 W. SCADA connectivity is via the OPC interface. Data rates are GPRS-class: 86 kbit/s downlink, 43 kbit/s uplink. The module supports remote firmware update and encrypted data transmission. Up to three connections in the send direction and one email client are configurable.
Mounting and integration – S7-1200 rail, IP20, antenna connector
DIN-rail mounting is per the S7-1200 single-width footprint, 30 × 100 × 75 mm (W × H × D). The module has an IP20 protection class and a standard SIM slot (1 card). Wall mounting is also an option. Antenna connection is via an SMA socket, 50 ohms, for an external antenna. The supply terminal block is 3-pole.
Lifecycle and sourcing – current stage, authorized channel recommended
Lifecycle stage is current, meaning standard availability through Siemens authorized distribution. No last-time-buy notice applies at time of writing. Given the GSM radio circuitry, supply chain integrity is critical. Sourcing through franchised distributors ensures full traceability and avoids tampered firmware. An RFQ through our desk taps the authorized channel chain of custody.
Rated environmental and security conditions
Storage and transport temperature range is -40 to +70 °C. Operating security recommendations from Siemens include integrating the module into a holistic industrial security concept with regular product updates.
