The 6GK7243-1HX30-0XE0 is a compact module in S7-1200 single-width format, 30 mm wide, 110 mm high, 75 mm deep. IP20 rated, so it lives inside an enclosure with the rest of the S7-1200 rack — no washdown tolerance, no outdoor exposure without a cabinet.
What the NTP support means for your application
This module carries an NTP client (Network Time Protocol) — it synchronises the S7-1200 CPU clock to a network time server, which matters when you timestamp alarms, log data, or sequence events across multiple controllers on the same plant network. The single RJ45 port runs at 10/100 Mbit/s on Industrial Ethernet. No DNP3, no IEC 60870-5 — this is a TCP/IP and IT-security oriented module, not a substation automation gateway. It supports stateful inspection firewall, password protection for web and teleservice access, and remote firmware update — so you can lock down the telecontrol link without a separate security appliance.
Data buffering and telecontrol behaviour
If the connection drops, the module buffers up to 64,000 data points locally. On reconnection it forwards the backlog — useful for remote sites where WAN links are intermittent. Maximum 200 data points per station, and up to three such modules per CPU. The module also acts as an email client (one maximum) for direct alerting.
