Telecontrol gateway for S7-1200
The Siemens 6GK7243-8RX30-0XE0 CP 1243-8 IRC is a compact communication module that slots directly into a SIMATIC S7-1200 system, adding telecontrol protocols for remote substation and SCADA connectivity. It supports DNP3, IEC 60870-5, and SINAUT ST7 protocols out of the box, making it the part to specify when the S7-1200 needs to talk to a control center over a WAN or serial link. The module draws 1.25 W from the S7-1200 backplane when operating without the TS module, and 2.4 W from an external 24 V DC supply when the TS module is present. That external supply connects through the included 3-pole terminal block.
Protocols and time sync
The CP 1243-8 IRC runs DNP3, IEC 60870-5, and SINAUT ST7 on the serial interface (0.3... 115.2 kbit/s) and 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet on the RJ45 port. It also functions as an NTP client, pulling time from an NTP server, and supports DCP for device discovery and configuration on the network. Up to four SINAUT ST7 connections are supported per module, with one control center connection using the ST7 function. The module also supports encrypted data transmission and stateful inspection firewall for securing the link.
The module requires SINAUT ES V5.5 and STEP7 V13 SP1 or higher for configuration. Remote firmware updates are supported, and Siemens provides industrial security guidance for integrating the module into a holistic plant security concept.
The module is a compact S7-1200 single-width module (75 mm depth, 30 mm width, 110 mm height) that snaps onto the DIN rail alongside the CPU.
