S7-400 Rack Fit and Port Layout
The 6GK7442-1RX00-0XE0 is a compact S7-400 single-width module, 25 mm wide, that snaps into the standard S7-400 rack and draws 1.8 A at 5 V from the backplane bus, dissipating 7.25 W. It provides three Industrial Ethernet interfaces: two RJ45 ports on the first interface (10 to 100 Mbit/s, auto-negotiating) and one RJ45 port on the second interface (fixed 100 Mbit/s). The module is IP20 rated, intended for installation in a closed control cabinet within the 0 to 60 °C operating range.
Network Services and Diagnostics
DCP (Discovery and Configuration Protocol) is supported, so the module can be assigned a PROFINET device name and IP address via the engineering tool without a memory card or hardware switches. NTP time synchronization is built in, allowing the S7-400 CPU to align its system clock across the plant network — critical for time-stamped alarms and sequence-of-events logging. Web-based diagnostics are accessible through the module's embedded web server, giving a browser view of port status, link errors, and diagnostic buffer without needing STEP 7.
Software and Configuration Requirements
Engineering requires STEP 7 V5.5 SP2 with HSP 1098 or higher — the hardware support package is mandatory for the module to appear in the hardware catalog. Up to 128 active connections per CPU are supported when using multiple CPUs in a multi-CPU configuration; per CPU the limit is 14 connections. The module includes IP-based ACL (Access Control List) filtering for both general communication and PLC/routing traffic, plus the ability to switch off non-required services and block communication via physical ports.
