SCADA gateway for the S7-1500 rack
The Siemens CP 1542SP-1 IRC (6GK7542-6VX00-0XE0) is a telecontrol communication module that sits on the S7-1500 backplane, giving the CPU direct IEC 60870-5-104 and DNP3 connectivity to SCADA control centers without an external gateway. It also supports the SINAUT ST7 protocol for legacy telecontrol networks and can act as an NTP client for time synchronization across the automation network.
Protocols and engineering constraints
The module handles IEC 60870-5-104 and DNP3 in both directions — up to 3 send connections and 15 receive connections, with a maximum of 32 T-block connections for data point mapping. Engineering requires STEP 7 Professional V14 (TIA Portal) or higher — older versions cannot configure this module, so factor the software version into your build schedule. Supply voltage is 19.2 to 28.8 VDC drawn from the backplane bus; the module dissipates 6 W, which contributes to the rack's thermal budget.
The module snaps onto a 35 mm top-hat DIN rail and measures 60 mm wide by 117 mm high by 74 mm deep — it occupies one standard S7-1500 slot width. IP20 rated, so it belongs inside a closed control cabinet with no washdown exposure.
