What this RTLS transponder does
The Siemens 6GT2700-5DC23 is a SIMATIC RTLS4083T transponder for the RTLS4000 real-time locating system, using UWB phase technology to track assets and personnel indoors. It operates in the 2.4 GHz and 6–7 GHz bands depending on regional approvals, with a maximum range of 30 m or 50 m in open-air conditions — always follow the manual for site-specific performance. The transponder is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery, with typical battery life of 1 year in standby mode, 6 months at a 1-second UWB localization cycle, or 25 days with display updates every 10 seconds. The battery is not user-replaceable, but the unit has a backup battery component. A 2.7" ePaper display (296 × 128 pixels) and a two-color LED serve as the operator interface, configurable with up to 5 background images, 20 fonts, and 20 text fields of 58 characters each. Configuration memory is stored in FLASH.
The housing measures 95 mm wide × 62 mm deep × 13 mm high in Ti gray polycarbonate (PC), with IP54 protection suitable for indoor industrial environments where dust and splash ingress are a concern. Fastening is via cable ties or mounting clips — no DIN-rail footprint, so plan for bracket or adhesive mounting in the asset or on the person. Operating temperature range is 0 to 40 °C during read/write access, with storage from -10 to +50 °C. Charging requires ambient temperature between 10 and 40 °C.
The 6GT2700-5DC23 is classified as NRND (Not Recommended for New Designs) by Siemens. For a plant purchasing supervisor or MRO planner, this means the part is still available through the supply chain but should not be specified into new BOM lines.
