That user memory is enough to store a serial number, production date, or batch code directly on the tag, readable at any point in the supply chain. Data transfer hits up to 320 kbit/s, and the tag supports multitag operation — meaning multiple labels can be read in a single interrogation zone without collision, which matters when a pallet of cartons rolls through a portal reader.
