What it is and what it does
The Siemens 6GT2810-4AC80 is a SIMATIC RF622L SmartLabel — a UHF RFID transponder tag built for the RF600 system. It runs on the EPCglobal Class 1 Gen 2 / ISO 18000-63 protocol across 860 to 960 MHz, so it works globally across UHF bands (Europe, US, Japan). The tag uses a Fujitsu MB97R803 chip with 3424 bytes of user memory (FRAM), plus an EPC memory that starts at 96 bits and expands up to 496 bits. That much user memory is unusual for a passive tag — it can carry a full production history or test results, not just a serial number. The tag is a white PET label, 90 x 18 x 0.3 mm, with a one-side adhesive fastening. It achieves IP64 protection when glued down, meaning it's dust-tight and splash-resistant in that condition — fine for indoor logistics or clean-ish production areas, but not for submerged washdown. Operating temperature during read/write is -20 to +85 °C, and it survives -40 to +85 °C outside the read/write area. The read range is rated up to 3 m, but the manual notes overrange is possible and range depends on the reader. For a fixed industrial reader with a good antenna, expect reliable reads at 2-2.5 m; handhelds will be shorter. The tag supports multitag operation, so multiple tags can be read in the field simultaneously.
Memory and data handling
The FRAM memory is organized with 3424 bytes of user memory, plus EPC memory (96 bit default, expandable to 496 bit) and a 512-bit TID. FRAM writes fast and endures many cycles — no wear-leveling concerns like EEPROM. The memory supports lock, unlock, write protection, and password protection, so you can secure the data once written. Transfer rate over the air is up to 320 kbit/s.
Integration notes
This tag is designed for the SIMATIC RF600 system. It's printable via thermal transfer, and silicon-free, which matters for electronics or automotive environments where outgassing can't contaminate contacts. The 0.3 mm thickness means it sits flat on a curved or flat surface, but the PET material is only conditionally resistant to torsion and bending — don't mount it on a flexing part. The adhesive is one-side; apply to a clean, dry surface for the IP64 seal.
