Drive module for a motor axis
The Siemens 6SL3120-1TE28-5AB0 is a SINAMICS S120 Single Motor Module designed to power a single servo or induction motor axis from a common DC bus. It takes 600 V DC input and delivers 400 V three-phase AC output rated at 85 A, with internal air cooling. The unit ships with DRIVE-CLiQ cable modules and is painted — a spare-part designation that means it's a direct factory replacement for an existing S120 cabinet build.
What the 85 A rating means on a motor axis
The 85 A output current is the continuous rated current for the module — it's sized for a motor pulling that full-load current on a constant-torque profile. For a 400 V AC induction motor, that roughly corresponds to a 45–55 kW motor depending on duty cycle and ambient temperature. The 600 V DC input comes from a common DC bus (S120 Smart Line Module or Active Line Module), so this module is one slice of a multi-axis drive system. The internal air cooling means it's designed for a cabinet with forced ventilation; don't box it into a sealed enclosure without airflow.
Panel integration and mounting
This module mounts into a SINAMICS S120 chassis or cabinet using the standard S120 Booksize or Chassis format — it's not a standalone DIN-rail unit. The DRIVE-CLiQ cables included are the communication link back to the Control Unit (CU320 or similar), so the module gets its speed and torque setpoints over the digital link. Verify the Control Unit firmware version supports this module revision before commissioning; older CU firmware may require an update to recognize the module.
