Drive selection memo
The Siemens 6SL3210-1KE21-3AC0 is a SINAMICS G120C drive rated for 5.5 kW with 150% overload capability for 3 seconds on 380-480 VAC three-phase supply (47-63 Hz). That overload headroom handles short-duration load spikes on pumps, fans, or small conveyors without oversizing the drive frame. Integrated Safe-Torque-Off (STO) eliminates the need for an external safety contactor on the motor circuit — one less component to wire and commission. The drive also carries an integrated Class A EMC filter, so it meets conducted emission limits for most industrial environments without an add-on module. The I/O complement — 6 digital inputs, 2 digital outputs, 1 analog input, 1 analog output — covers basic speed control and status feedback. Fieldbus is CANopen, which ties into existing automation networks without a gateway card.
Panel integration
The drive is IP20 / UL Open Type, so it belongs inside a clean, dry enclosure — not on the machine frame in a washdown zone. The FSB frame size (196 x 100 x 203 mm HxWxD) fits a standard 200 mm deep panel; leave 100 mm clearance above and below for airflow. Supply voltage tolerance is wide: 380-480 VAC +10% / -20%, which covers nominal 400 V and 480 V systems without a transformer tap change. The integrated Class A filter is sized for the full voltage range.
