What the dual overload rating means for motor sizing
The 6SL3211-1PE31-1AL0 carries two distinct output ratings depending on the duty cycle you need. At high overload (HO) it delivers 45 kW for 200% overload for 3 seconds, 150% for 57 seconds, and 100% continuous for 240 seconds, with an ambient range of -20 to +50 °C. At low overload (LO) it delivers 55 kW for 150% for 3 seconds, 110% for 57 seconds, and 100% continuous for 240 seconds, but the ambient limit drops to +40 °C. That HO rating is the one you size against a constant-torque load like a conveyor or extruder where you need the starting torque margin; the LO rating fits variable-torque loads like pumps and fans where the peak demand is lower.
Built-in filter and braking chopper — what they save you
This PM240-2 variant includes a built-in Class A EMC filter and a braking chopper. The Class A filter means it meets conducted emission limits for industrial environments (second environment per EN 61800-3) without an external filter module — one less component to mount and wire. The integrated braking chopper lets you connect an external braking resistor directly, so you can handle overhauling loads (vertical conveyors, hoists, centrifuges) without a separate chopper module. Both are standard, not options.
Push Through form factor and panel integration
The Push Through design means the heat sink protrudes through the panel cutout, so the bulk of the thermal dissipation happens outside the enclosure. That keeps the internal temperature rise lower and can reduce the need for forced ventilation or a larger cabinet. The unit measures 615 x 354 x 237 mm (HxWxD) and carries IP20 protection — suitable for a clean, dry electrical room or a ventilated cabinet. It requires a separate Control Unit (CU) to function; the firmware must be at version V4.7 SP6 or later for compatibility.
