Drive selection memo — SINAMICS S120M distributed servo
The 6SL3542-6DF71-0RA1 is a SINAMICS S120M distributed servo-drive in the AH48 frame size, rated for 2.5 Nm continuous torque at 3000 rpm nominal speed. It runs on a DC 600V bus — no AC input stage on the motor itself; power comes from a shared DC link supplied by a Smart Line Module or similar infeed. The 20-bit absolute encoder gives you single-turn position feedback without needing a separate battery-backed multiturn, which simplifies replacement on a line where the mechanical zero is fixed per station. IP65 rating means the housing and shaft seal withstand direct hose-down and airborne dust — suitable for food, beverage, or washdown zones where a cabinet-mounted drive would need a separate enclosure. Natural air cooling (no fan) eliminates the most common failure point on servo motors in wet environments, but derate the torque if you mount it in a confined space above 40 °C ambient. The shaft ships with a fitted key, tolerance N per DIN 6885. Mounting options include IM B5 (flange), IM V1 (vertical shaft up), and IM V3 (vertical shaft down) — the same frame accepts all three without adapter plates. No holding brake is fitted on this variant; if the vertical load needs to hold position at power-off, you will need the braked version or an external brake resistor on the DC link.
