Integrator's field note
The ABB PM595-4ETH-F (1SAP155500R0279) is a distributed automation PLC processor with 16 MB program memory and 16 MB data memory backed by RAM. It runs on a 24 V DC supply, nominal 20.4... 28.8 V, so a regulated PSU with a little headroom is good practice. The four Industrial Ethernet ports (two with integrated switch) handle the control network load; two RS232/485 serial ports cover legacy fieldbus drops. Two coupler slots let you bolt on additional communication modules — essential for mixed-protocol lines or redundant topologies.
Panel placement & power budget
IP20, so it lives in a clean enclosure. The processor itself draws from the backplane; the supply voltage range is tight enough that a 24 VDC PSU with ±5% regulation covers it. With 0 digital I/O onboard, all field wiring goes through I/O modules — the PM595 focuses on computation and networking. The 4 Ethernet ports handle star or ring topologies; the two switch ports let you daisy-chain without an external switch for small cells. Front-panel LED diagnostics tell you link/activity and module status at a glance — useful when commissioning a packed cabinet.
