What lands in the cabinet
The ABB 1SAP240500R0001 is a DC523 distributed-automation I/O module that gives the panel 24 configurable digital channels, each software-assignable as input or output, fed from a 20.4... 28.8 V DC rail and switching transistor outputs rated 0.5 A at 24 V DC. Four auxiliary terminals each on 0 V and 24 V DC are tied out next to the channels so field commons and supply returns land close to the wiring plane — which matters when you terminate 24 channels in one block. The CN8 customs classification 85389091 puts it in the same tariff bucket as the rest of the DC5xx line.
Channel envelope and output rating
Twenty-four configurable DI/DO means a single module covers a mixed panel — half the channels wired to proximity sensors and the other half driving solenoid valves — without burning slots on two separate cards. The 0.5 A per-channel output ceiling is the figure to size valve coils, indicator lamps, and small relays against; if any single load exceeds that, the channel trips and you find out at commissioning. Output voltage tracks the supply rail inside the 20.4... 28.8 V window, so a sagging 24 V PSU is visible at the load.
Input side and signal timing
Inputs draw 5 mA at 24 V DC and accept up to 0... 30 V on the terminal, which leaves margin for long cable runs where induced voltage can sit above the nominal rail. The signal delay is configurable from 0.1 ms to 32 ms, so the same module handles debounced limit-switch reads at the slow end and short pulse captures at the fast end — provided the application programme sets the filter per channel rather than leaving it at default.
Environmental envelope
Operation is rated 0... +60 °C ambient, which covers most cabinet interiors without forced ventilation but does push you toward derating if the module sits next to a contactor bank or a sealed power supply. Ingress is IP20, so this card lives inside the enclosure — finger-safe at the terminal strip, not field-mountable. The DC523 sits in ABB's Distributed Automation I/Os family, the same mechanical and electrical platform as the DC532 and DI524 siblings, which keeps the backplane, terminal layout, and commissioning toolchain consistent across a mixed panel.
Compliance pack
ABB declares RoHS conformity under EU Directive 2011/65/EU and Amendment 2015/863 of 22 July 2019, and the REACH declaration is on file with a 20241206 reference date. The SCIP database entry carries ID 98bc66fe-2561-4f0a-a24f-e9c590b1080b for Germany. WEEE Category 5 (small equipment, no external dimension more than 50 cm) applies and the commercial channel is business-to-business — so end-of-life returns route through the integrator, not retail take-back.
