The ABB 1SFA894007R7020 is a PST72-series softstarter rated for 72 A in-line connection and 124 A inside-delta, delivering 37 kW at 400 V in-line or 59 kW at 400 V inside-delta. It carries a built-in electronic overload (adjustable 1.5–7× Ie) so you don't need a separate overload relay on the motor branch.
The 72 A in-line rating covers a 37 kW motor at 400 V — that's the straightforward install: softstarter in the line, motor directly downstream. The 124 A inside-delta rating (59 kW at 400 V) is for wiring the softstarter inside the motor delta connection, which lets it handle a larger motor because each phase carries only phase current, not line current. If your motor is wired delta and you have access to the winding leads, the inside-delta connection saves you a frame size. Ramp time is adjustable from 0 to 120 seconds, with initial voltage during start settable from 30 to 70 % and a step-down special ramp from 100 to 30 %. That range covers soft starting for high-inertia loads like fans, centrifuges, or conveyors where you need a long acceleration and a controlled deceleration. The control supply accepts 100–250 V AC; the control circuit also accepts 24 V DC for logic-level interfacing. Communication is via a standard FieldBusPlug, so it drops onto a fieldbus backbone without a separate gateway module.
Main circuit terminals accept rigid 1 x 10 to 95 mm² cable; control and supply circuit terminals take 1 x 2.5 mm². Screw terminals with a control-circuit tightening torque of 0.5 N·m. Ambient operating temperature is 0 to +50 °C with a 115 % service factor — meaning it can run at 115 % of rated current without tripping, useful for short-duration overloads during startup sequences.
