The ABB PST210 1SFA894012R7020 is a softstarter rated 210 A in-line connection and 360 A inside-delta connection, delivering 110 kW at 400 V in-line or 184 kW at 400 V inside-delta. The inside-delta wiring reduces current through the thyristors by a factor of √3, so the same device handles a larger motor — useful when the motor's full-load current exceeds the in-line rating but the starter can be wired inside the delta loop. Built-in electronic overload protection eliminates the need for a separate overload relay in most applications. The current limit function is adjustable from 1.5 to 7 times the set motor current (Ie), giving flexibility for high-inertia starts or pump soft-stops. The control supply accepts 100–250 V AC, while the separate control circuit can be fed 24 V DC — useful when the panel uses a 24 V DC control bus and the main supply is 230 V AC. The ramp time is adjustable from 0 to 120 seconds, covering most soft-start profiles from quick coupling to gentle acceleration of conveyors.
Deployment context
Main circuit terminals are bars with a 10.2 mm hole diameter — expect lug-type cable connections, not cage clamps. Control circuit terminals accept 1 x 2.5 mm² rigid wire with a tightening torque of 0.5 N·m. The main terminals carry an IP00 protection rating, so the unit must be mounted inside an enclosure with at least IP54 to keep dust and tools out. The 115 % service factor means the overload protection allows 15 % continuous overcurrent above the set Ie — useful for motors that occasionally run above nameplate, but the thermal model still protects the winding.
