Softstarter for motor starting
The ABB 1SFA894014R7000 is a PST300 softstarter rated for 300 A in-line connection and 515 A inside delta, delivering 160 kW at 400 V (in-line) or 257 kW (inside delta). The 300 A in-line rating covers standard motor starting on conveyors, pumps, or fans up to that current without needing delta wiring changes. Inside delta connection drops the current through each phase to 58% of line current, so the 515 A inside delta rating handles larger motors — useful when the motor's full-load current exceeds the in-line rating but the starter can be wired in the delta legs. Built-in electronic overload protection eliminates the need for a separate thermal relay, saving panel space and wiring. The current limit function (1.5–7× Ie) and adjustable ramp time (0–120 s) give you control over the start profile — set the ramp to match the load's acceleration requirement, and cap the inrush with the current limit to avoid tripping upstream breakers.
Supply and control voltages
Control supply is 100–250 V AC; a separate 24 V DC control circuit is also available for the logic side, which keeps the control wiring isolated from the power loop. The main terminals are IP00 (open) — expect to mount this inside an enclosure with proper IP rating for the environment.
Signals and communication
The starter provides run, fault, bypass, and overload signal relays — four separate dry contacts for the PLC or HMI to monitor. A standard FieldBusPlug communication interface is built in, so you can connect to a fieldbus network without an external gateway. Analog output 0–10 V can feed a speed or current signal to a drive or display.
