The ABB PSTB720 soft starter (order code 1SFA894018R7020) handles 720 A in-line (Ie) and 1247 A inside-delta, rated 400 kW at 400 V in-line and 710 kW inside-delta at the same voltage. That inside-delta connection lets you size the starter for a fraction of the motor full-load current — common on larger three-phase induction motors where the line current exceeds the starter's direct rating. Built-in electronic overload protection (1.5–7x Ie current limit) eliminates a separate overload relay from the panel. Control supply accepts 100–250 V AC; a separate 24 V DC control circuit handles logic-level inputs. Ramp time is adjustable from 0 to 120 s, with initial voltage during start settable 30–70 % and step-down voltage ramp from 100–30 % — enough curve shaping for most pump, fan, and conveyor starts. Communication is via a standard FieldBusPlug (Profibus, DeviceNet, or CANopen depending on the plug), so the starter integrates into a fieldbus network without a separate gateway.
Main circuit terminals are bars (hole diameter 12.5 mm) — expect lug-type connections, not screw-clamp. Control circuit terminals take rigid 1 x 2.5 mm² wire at 0.5 N·m torque. The supply circuit also accepts rigid 1 x 2.5 mm². IP00 on the main terminals means the starter lives inside an enclosure; plan for a panel with adequate clearance and ventilation, given the 720 A through-bus.
